Lupine season!

Welcome back to a short but sweet appreciation post for one of my favourite flowers, lupines! As we head into wildflower season, I'm so lucky to have an amazing man that always picks me flowers in the morning before work, or brings me flowers on his way home. This week he brought home a huge bunch of lupines🥰

Lupines are a perennial that can be commonly found in North America, and bloom around late spring to early summer. Its name is derived from the latin “lupus”, meaning wolf. There is a large variety of species within the lupinus family, with colours ranging from pink, purple, blue, yellow and more. In addition to their symbolism related to wolves and the moon, lupines are also associated with creativity, imagination and voraciousness. The different colours are said to have different meanings as well!

I remember first seeing lupines when visiting my grandparents in Haliburton years ago; I immediately fell in love. From a florist’s perspective, they are easy to work with and look amazing in both cut bouquets and seasonal vase arrangements. My Grandma remembers seeing them everywhere when she was a little girl growing up in Newfoundland. It is my dream to one day photograph the lupines that overlook St. John's! Until then, here’s some photos I took of the bunch I received🌸
