We got married!

I’m so excited to announce my “soon-to-be hubby” that I’ve been referencing in a few of my blogs and I officially got married!! And I’m way too excited not to share the details in a blog post, because it was the most perfect day. A while back Mark and I got to talking and said hey we really like each other, let’s get married! Neither of us are a huge fan of traditional weddings, I wore a black dress if that tells you anything. We’re also both introverts, so we didn’t want anything too crazy. But we knew for sure that we wanted to do something small to celebrate our next adventure!

We were back and forth between October 17th (the full moon) or October 31st (Halloween), but ultimately decided to go with the 17th. I’m a huge fan of cool rainy days; I spent weeks hoping it would at least be cloudy for our big day, and being mid-October we assumed it would be on the cooler side. When we woke up and it was warm and sunny, I was so over the moon that we were getting married that I didn’t care!

Our photographer arrived in the afternoon, and we took some photos at home with our dogs before heading to Morris Island Conservation Area for a couples shoot. Mark and I are both extremely camera shy, but Alex and her husband made us feel so comfortable and kept us laughing the entire time. I definitely recommend checking out The Session by Alex Marie for all of your documentary-style wedding and lifestyle photoshoot needs! I also have to give a shoutout to my friend Laura at Acanthus Floral & Botanical for creating my dream wedding bouquet! I went to Laura with a few inspiration photos and a couple of specifics I wanted in the bouquet like cedar and black roses, then said the rest is up to her. She also did an amazing job with Mark’s boutonniere and the collar corsages for Amber and Rylie🖤

We then had a short but sweet ceremony with immediate family at one of our favourite spots in Morris Island. The ceremony took place right before sunset, and with all of the fall colours, it was beautiful. We did use the traditional vows for our ceremony, but added in “to explore and adventure with, til death do us part”. We had my Grandpa and my brother-in-law hand us the rings while my uncle officiated for us. It was such a special moment watching the love of my life tear up as we said “I do” in front of our loved ones🥰

After the ceremony, we headed back home for my mother-in-law’s homemade lasagna. We were later joined by more family and close friends to celebrate with a bonfire and huge dessert table with some of our favourite desserts, both homemade and from local bakeries. We served tiramisu, cupcakes, pumpkin pie, apple crisp, butter tarts, ice cream, hot apple cider and more! We also had a s’mores bar right near the bonfire. The full moon lit up the sky perfectly as we enjoyed the fire with our family and friends. Seeing everyone come together was such an amazing feeling!

It sounds cliché to say that I married my best friend, but I can truly say that this was the best decision I’ve ever made. He is the most supportive, caring, hard working man I know. He is my favourite adventure buddy, the best dog Dad to Amber and Rylie, and an amazing uncle to our nephew Theo. I could go on and on about how I lucked out with him. We have been there for each other through every up and down life has thrown at us since meeting six years ago. Unfortunately my family has experienced a number of losses over the last few years, including my Dad who passed in an accident just six months after Mark and I met. I’m glad they had the chance to meet once before he died, and I always say he’s stuck with me now because he got Dad’s approval. To honour my Dad on our big day we dedicated a table to him filled with his photos, firefighting awards, his captain helmet and a candle lit in his memory. At times it felt hard to celebrate knowing that he should have been there, but we knew he was there in spirit.

Overall, we could not have asked for a better wedding day. Here’s to a lifetime of adventures together as husband and wife!💍

(Here’s a few photos that I took of the moon that night as well as my bouquet, I’ll make sure to add more once we get them back from our photographer!)
